la leche
ellie dumped her milk on her head at dinner tonight. after rubbing it all into her hair, she exclaimed: "i beautiful, mommy!" sometimes you just have to laugh at your kids.

henry's blessing
today was henry's special day!
a little late, i know, but we really wanted danny's parents to be with us. they're both very busy people, and they don't get the opportunity to sneak away very often. we're so grateful that they were able to come up this weekend and celebrate a couple of awfully special milestones with us!
we blessed henry at home, so it was a very quite and special time surrounded by our family. danny gave henry a beautiful blessing. i am so grateful for such a wonderful husband.
the rest of the day was completely relaxed and we just enjoyed being together. it was absolutely wonderful!
(this was the best picture we could get of our family. try getting three kids to all smile at the same time looking in the same direction.)
and now, please enjoy TONS of pictures of my sweet little guy:

second one!
happy birthday, eleanor! i can't believe that she's two today, this last year seems to have gone by especially quickly.
ellie isn't a baby anymore, now she's a big 2-year-old girl. i can tell because she always wants to "do it" all by herself. get dressed, go up and down stairs, brush her teeth, get in the car, wash her hands. she doesn't need me anymore (at least she doesn't seem to think she does.).
ellie loves to sing ("lalala-de-da") and yodel ("yo-da-le-he-hoo" - thanks emma) while she plays, rock in the rocking chair (singing "rock a baby"), love her baby dolls, read books, dress up, and draw circles on her doodle board. ellie also loves shoes, they are her number one favorite thing in life right now. (which is great, because she got a whole bag of them for her birthday! - thanks grama & papa!)
like every birthday, we started the day with number pancakes. instead of using a squirt bottle like i have in the past, i tried to make really pretty ones with a spoon, ala sis. (my sister-in-law makes the most beautiful pancakes i have ever seen! think, lace you can eat, i kid you not, she is amazing! hi, shannan, 3!) as you can see, they did not work out so well, but they tasted really good. i'm going back to the squirt bottle for dan's birthday.
ellie had an awesome party with some delicious cake (it's not leaning, the camera is) and some amazing presents (thank you everyone!).
most notable was this amazing book, a bag of shoes, an ellie sized rocking chair, a tricycle (so she can ride her bike with abbey), and a giant stuffed bear from daddy, who she named "mister bear".

every year my dad makes crepes for dinner on christmas eve. i'm not sure why we started doing this (it started when i was really little), but i'm glad we do it, they're delicious!
christmas eve cookies, christmas morning stockings, and henry's tush ;D
just a snippet from christmas morning. the girls had so much fun opening their presents and playing with their toys. i can't wait for next year!

i'm blind!
the girls have been really sick this week. coughs, runny noses, fevers and pink eye. abbey has pink eye in both of her eyes. we went to the doctor last night and got a prescription for an eye ointment to clear it up. (the appointment in and of itself was an adventure. she wouldn't open her eyes or talk to the nurse because she thought that she would get a shot if she did.)
i was supposed to wait until bed time to put the ointment in her eyes, but they looks so awful (so "pink" and swollen, poor little girl, i wish i'd taken a picture.) that i put the stuff in her eyes right after lunch. abbey was super brave and held her little eyes open while i put the ointment under her lid. as soon as she blinked, however, she lost it.
imagine putting neosporin in your eyes, because that's pretty much what i was doing to her. doesn't sound awesome, right? now, imagine trying to see with neosporin in your eyes. you can't, because that stuff is greasy and gunky. that makes sense to us, but not to a four year old.
abbey started blinking and freaking out because she couldn't see. "everything's blurry, get it out of my eyes!" i told her i couldn't get it out and just to blink, it would go away and things wouldn't be blurry anymore. "no it won't!" she cried, "i'm...i'm BLIND!", she screamed. this is when she started bawling and nearly hyperventilating.
my poor little girl really thought that she was blind. it was the saddest thing i'd ever seen. i told her that mommy would never do anything to make her go blind. i'm pretty sure she believed me, she seemed to calm down a little. i told her to close her eyes and i rocked her while she cried. luckily, all those tears cleared things up pretty quickly. when she could see again, she decided that she had been pretty silly for thinking that she'd gone blind.
now i see why the doctor told me to put these in at bed time. in the dark. just before she falls asleep. that's what we're doing tomorrow. and next time someone gets pink eye, i'm getting the eye drops, this ointment stuff is more drama than it's worth!
